Crazy For Cupcakes

I am so loving this stamp set. It's so sweet. I saw a pop up card somewhere and have been wanting to make one. I thought this set might work nicely, however cutting out those little cupcakes was quite a chore. The card base is 3.25 x10.5. It was made to fit a specific envelope that I have on hand. I was also crazy enough to think I could make 25 -30 of these for our friend Lynne's class this year. She is a teacher and she gives her students a card on their birthday. Unless she wants to cut out 50 stacks of cupcakes and color them, maybe we'll go with something else.
Stamps: Crazy for Cupcakes
Paper: WW, Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip
Ink: Black Stazon, Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink, Real Red
Accessories: Oval Nesties, Beads, Ribbon, Birthday Embossing Folder

WSC54

It's great to have Beate back with her weekend sketch challenges. The timing couldn't have been better because my new stamps came in today too and I finally got a chance to just play instead of working.
I have been working on wedding invites, thank you cards and name cards for a friend. We've enjoyed working on them together but making 75 wedding invitations, thank you cards and 120 name cards has become a little tedious. We are also working on welcome back cards for a principal to send to the teachers at her school. Once all these projects are complete I will post them.

Back to the card for Beate's weekend sketch challenge. As soon as I finished this card my daughter decided she would give it to her friend for her birthday today. Oh well, I guess I'll have to make another one. Stamps: Crazy for Cupcakes, Small Sayings ( sentiment)
Paper: Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, Pirouette Pink, Real Red DSP
Ink: Stazon Black, Real Red, Chocolate Chip

New Color List for 2008-2009

I was browsing Maryjo Albright's blog Beauty Lies Within and came across her list of picks for the next season. Since I am very visual I decided to take this list a step further and I created a color chart for her picks. I know it will come in handy especiall y during a creative dry season. Feel free to use it if you like and check out Beauty Lies Within for more great ideas.

LSC180 Missed U Lunchnote

Today's challenge was to create an ATC card ( Artist Trading Card) measuring 3.5 x 2.5. The theme of the card is to let a loved one know you are thinking about them throughout the day. The only person away from home right now is my son's girlfriend and she happened to post an I miss you message on my facebook yesterday. She is so sweet and thoughtful. So I'll be giving her this card when she gets back. Stamps: So Very, All in a Row
Paper: Pink Passion, BB, WW
Ink: Black Stazon, Craft White
Accesssories: Square Nestities, Fine Cosmo Glitter, Chipboard Letter, Ribbon

Another Double Challenge

Today's challenge was to use bling on our card. I decided to use yesterday's sketch as well. I'm not sure what I was thinking in adding glitter to the Touch of Nature images. I started out with the glitter covered butterfly and thought why not use the flower as well and add some glitter to the centers. The butterfly image was inked with versamark, then black Stazon and then stamped onto vellum. I then sprinkled some heat and stick powder and finally the Orchid Fine Cosmo Glitter.

Stamps: Touch of Nature

Paper: Almost Amethyst, Lovely Lilac, WW, Vellum

Ink: Black Stazon, Almost Amethyst, Lovely Lilac, Old Olive

Accessories: Orchid Fine Cosmo Glitter, Heat and Stick Powder, Dew Drops

Double Challenge

Today's color challenge is to use the 2007-2008 In Colors. I also combined it with yesterday's technique challenge Square Spring Card. I used a pieces of 41/4 x 81/2 Ginger Blossom Cardstock for the base. Ruby Red was adhered to the bottom base of the card and to the top portion of the square. I used a hole punch to punch holes in the corners and threaded some ribbon through them. Dew drops were adhered with Aleene's Jewel-It glue. This glue adhere everything and anything.

Stamps: Embrace Life

Paper: Ginger Blossom DP, Ruby Red, WW

Ink: Groovy Guava, Ruby Red, Wild Wasabi, Black Stazon

Accessories: Petite Circle Nesties, Ribbon, Dew Drops, Dimensionals, Hole Punch

TLC179 New Technique - Blintz Base

The Blintz Base technique is today's technique challenge. It is an origami type fold. It reminded me of a quilting pattern and so I thought a baby card would be very fitting for this technique. I really like how it turned out and I'll have to try it again.
I added chocolate chip to the top and bottom of the designer paper before folding it to give it some more dimension and contrast.
Stamps: Nursery Necessities
Paper: Regal Rose, Chocolate Chip, Pretty in Pink, Berry Bliss DP, WW
Ink: Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Star Punches, Brads, Button, Nesties Rectangles

HAPPY BLOG-A-VERSARY STEF

The Inspiration challenge today is to make a card inspired by a website. I chose Stef's Ingenious Inkling blog for my inspiration. I love her colors and design.

The baroque motifs image was embossed on whisper white and then the background was sponged with pretty in pink. I then cut it out with a plastic fiskars template (does anybody use those anymore???) The flower is from stitched exotics. The leaves are cut from a punched out flower. The next layer is a whisper white cardstock that was sponged with tempting turquoise. Celebrate is stamped on pretty in pink and punched out with the tab punch. Happy birthday cuttlebug embossing folder used for the background.

Stamps: Baroque Motifs, Stitched Exotics, Fancy Flexible Phrases

Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Pixie Pink, Pretty in Pink, Green Galore

Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Pixie Pink, Pretty in Pink, Black

CC173 Color Challenge Purely Pomegranate, Wild Wasabi, Certainly Celery

I combined this challenge with yesterday's Pouncing Chalks Challenge. I think this technique has become my favorite, I wish I had tried it sooner.

The Paisley background and the flower and bee image from Bloomin' Beautiful were all stamped in versamark and pounced with chalks. The pounced black chalk on the bee image gives it a fuzzy look, it makes it look very realistic.

Stamps: Bloomin' Beautiful, Paisely Background, Fancy Flexible Phrases

Paper: Wild Wasabi, Certainly Celery, Purely Pomegranate, Whisper White

Ink: Versamark, Celery, Black and Rose Red Chalk, Black Stazon

Accessories: Petite Circle Nestabilities, Ribbon, Dew Drops, Vellum Circle Tag

TLC175 Pouncing Chalks

This was a great challenge. I have never done this technique before. The flower image and the weathered background were both stamped in versamark. I then used Q-tips to color the image and the background with chalks. The En Francais background on the Groovy Gauva was stamped with Chocolate Chip ink. I decided to make this a birthday card as we are celebrating 3 birthdays in the next week. Stamps: Live Your Dream, En Francais, Weathered, Small Script(Sentiment)
Paper: Vanilla, Chocolate Chip, Groovy Gauva, Ruby Red
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Chalks

WSC52 Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge

I've come to some self realization through this blogging exercise. I'm slightly obsessed with Nestabilities and frames. Though this card does not contain a Nestabilities frame, it does have a frame with a flourish from the Frames with a Flourish Stamp Set and of course one side of a Nestabilities Scalloped Rectangle. The largest Nestabilities Scalloped Rectangle die was not quite large enough to mat the En Francais Background. Therefore, the flower was strategically placed to help cover the area where the Scalloped edge ended. I might have to look at getting some Long Rectangle Nestabilities.

I also really like the Fresh Cut Set. I decided to just use a portion of the background stamp from the set by using markers to color the flowers and leaves in the lower right hand corner and then punched it out with 1 3/8 inch square punch and adhered it to my frame. (It was trimmed slightly to fit better inside the frame.)

Stamps: Fresh Cuts, Frames with a Flourish, En Francais BG

Paper: Celery, Black, Pink Passion, White

Ink: Stazon Black, Celery, Old Olive, Pink Passion

Accessories: Nestablities, Piercing Tool, Flower, Brad, 1 3/8 Square Punch.

WT170 Picture This - Sweet Olivia

Today 's Ways to Use It challenge on Splitcoast was to use a picture as part of the project. I looked over on my shelf and there was this birth announcement that I made last weekend for one of our Pastors. I made 40 of them and was so busy that I didn't even upload it onto my blog. Well, today was the perfect opportunity. The card had to be fairly simple as I knew I would be making 40 of them. Even though this card looks simple cutting and embossing the pink frame took a great deal of time. The picture was also cut out with the largest Oval Nestalities and then trimmed to fit behind the frame since cutting it out with the corresponding Oval Nestablities left an embossed edge around the picture and was not very esthectically pleasing.

Stamps: Bundled In Love, Bundle of Joy, I'm Here (inside card)
Paper: Whisper White, Pretty In Pink
Ink: Regal Rose, Pretty In Pink
Accessories: Ribbon, Nestabilities

Color Challenge - Real Red, Regal Rose, So Saffron

I 've wanted to create an acetate window card for a while and here it is. I took an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 whisper white piece of cardstock and cut out a window with the rectangle Nestabilities. I then cut out and embossed a frame that was two sizes smaller than the window from the so saffron cardstock. The so saffron frame was adhered to the inside of the card. Another frame was cut out and embossed with scalloped rectangle Nestabilities and adhered to the outside of the card. Finally, adhered the acetate onto the inside of the card. The balloons were stamped on whisper white cardstock and cut out and then adhered to the inside of the card.

I'm finally back and feeeling a lot better since I've now had two sessions of massage therapy. The YC weekend left me in excruciating pain. I pulled a muscle in my neck on the very first night and it was not from dancing or shaking my head. I happen to be seated in a row all by myself so everyone made my row the walkway. Somehow (probably because I'm not 19 or 29) I pulled a muscle in my neck as I turned to let everyone pass through. Anyway, I'm glad to finally be feeling better. Thank God for massage therapy and a very good therapist.

I also just received my Fresh Cuts Set and the notes. I think it may be my new favorite. Here's what I came up with for the color challenge this week. I like Blue Bayou, Soft SKy and Real Red together. Great color combo.
The frame around the main image was created by cutting ou the center witha hobby blade and a ruler.

WSC49 Simple Wedding

Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge

Short on time today. Lots to do before I head out with the kids this evening to YC, my first time ever. I'm really looking forward to the speakers, in particular John Bevere. I'm sure worship with all the bands willl be great too. Been a long time since I've been to any sort of major concert. After three days of YC my body will quickly remind me that I'm no longer 19 or even 29 for that matter. I've gotta save my energy for tonight so it's a quick and easy wedding card for the challenge today. Considering it only took half an hour to make, it turned out quite well. Sometimes simple is best.

A Birthday Card for Marco

Thursday's SCS challenge for ways to use it is to create a masculine card. Marco's birthday card that I've been working on fits the bill.
Mickey was cut and embossed with the Mickey Cuttlebug Die and Embossing folder in Basic Black. I then cut and embossed his face in Blush Blossom. His face was cut out of the Black diecut and the Blush Blossom was placed in behind. I then colored his nose, lips and eyes with markers. Mickey's pants were also cut and embossed in Real Red and then glued onto the Black diecut.
As were his shoes and buttons.
The Tempting Turquoise cardstock is an 8 1/2 x 11 folded in half.

Stamps: In the Stars
Cardstock: Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black, Blush Blossom, Real Red, Summer Sun, Whisper White,Disney Paper
Ink: Summer Sun, Real Red SU Marker, Black SU Marker, White Gel Pen

A Birthday Invitation!!!

Last week, I received this card from my cousin, Lisa. It is an invitation to her son Marco's first birthday. Marco fell in love with Mickey on their recent trip to Disneyland. The party is going to be a Mickey theme. As you can tell from the picture he's a really happy little guy, always smiling.

Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge #48.

I thought that the friendly flowers set would be a great set to own. I've found that it's been quite challenging to create a card with this set and wanted to rename it Not So Friendly Flowers. I've tried on a couple of occasions and was quite disappointed. Beate's sketch this weekend may have just made it possible. Beate's challenges have been great in stirring up my creativity. Check out her blog here

I started by making my own designer paper with all three flower images. The dots around the tempting turquoise were made with the fine point of the chocolate chip marker and the piercing tool template. The chocolate ribbon goes all the way around the turquoise cardstock and comes out underneath the punched out flower and through it.

Stamps: Friendly Flowers

Cardstock: Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel, Choclate Chip, Tempting Turquoise, Really Rust

Ink: Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip, Craft White

Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge 47

This week I thought I would try two challenges in one card. It proved to be more of a challenge than I thought, the colors just didn't seem to work for me. The highlight of this card came when Peggy from PaperworksCo. came to my door to drop off my order, just as I was taking a picture of this card. So before I took the picture I thought to add some of the dew drops she dropped off and even that didn't help this card. Oh well, here it is anyway. Not everything works out the way you envision it. IC126 Scrapbook Inspiration

This week's Saturday Inspiration Challenge is to make a card that is inspired by a scrabooking page. A fitting challenge for National Scrapbooking Day.

This page was made last year and it is one of my favorite pages. The colors were inspired by the picture of my niece, Olivia, my favorite little girl. She was about 2 1/2 years old in this picture. It's hard to believe she'll be 4 years old this September. Here's the card inspired by the scrapbooking page

WSC45 Nursery Necessities and Nestabilities (Masking with Nestabilities)

Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge #45

The star was punched out with the large star punch and matted on black cardstock. Initially, I glued down the star to a piece of white cardstock. The star on the white background looked very stark, so I thought I would sponge the background to bring all the colors together. I used the Nestabilities rectangle to mask off my white cardstock and sponged it with the three colors, Apricot Appeal, Certainly Celery and Tempting Turquoise. I also like how it left the white border; a little extra dimension. See pictures below for masking with the Nestabilities die cut. Stamps: Nursery Necessities
Cardstock: Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black, Apricot Appeal Designer Prints, Whisper White
Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Apricot Appeal, Certainly Celery, Stazon Black, Versamark

Bloomin' Beautiful Watercolor

Our ladies group had a great speaker in this weekend from Master's Commision in B.C. Holes Green house donated some beautiful hydrangeas. It inspired me to get out my Bloomin' Beautiful stamp set out and finally do some watercoloring this week. I am longing to see something out there bloom, especially since we got hit with snow this week and cold temperatures. I am remaining hopeful that Spring is just around the corner, we saw about 25 beautiful robins in our trees yesterday.
